I have made it clear how much I love traveling to Lebanon and there are many things and destinations you can explore on your own. However, when you want to get a better understanding and see Lebanon beyond the touristic sites, Tourleb is the way to go!
Since it was my second time traveling Lebanon I was super excited to dive deeper and get a better understanding of this deeply complex country.
TourLeb is an inspiring women-led organization that has been leading the charge when it comes to impact tourism and community-oriented tourism in Lebanon. Founded by a passionate team of local guides, TourLeb seeks to give international and national visitors alike access to traditional experiences way off the beaten path.
TourLeb’s mission is to use sustainable tourism as a vehicle for positive change in the local communities of Lebanon. By sourcing locally-made products, connecting visitors with local guides, and encouraging travelers to take guided tours that promote cultural exchange, they are able to leave a tangible impact on those who may not otherwise have access to tourism opportunities.
Nada and Joëlle are two remarkable women who have dedicated themselves to raising awareness about the cohabitation of Christians and Muslims in Lebanon through their “Trait d’union islam-christianisme” project. Living in Canada for many years, they have heard all kinds of stories and prejudices about their homeland. To dispel these myths, they have created a book, a documentary, and a photo exhibition that have been exhibited across Europe, America, and Lebanon. Through oral testimonies, they provide a window into the lives of people from the smallest villages to the biggest cities and share their love for every part of Lebanon without exception. Their project is not only inspiring, but it also serves as a model of how people can come together to deconstruct prejudices and build bridges of empathy and understanding. With their deep knowledge of Lebanon and fearless love for all people, Nada and Joëlle invite everyone to join them on this journey to better understand Lebanon.
TourLeb offers carefully curated community-focused tours that give you a chance to explore way beyond the traditional tourist itineraries. By connecting you with local guides, providing locally sourced products and services, and encouraging cultural exchange, TourLeb makes it possible for visitors to have a meaningful impact on the destinies of communities in Lebanon.
While I was traveling Lebanon in 2023 I went on a day trip through seasons and time to explore how the traditional cheese was being made. What made the tour so special to me was that it literally felt like I was out and about for an exciting day with friends. I loved visiting the cheesemakers and the impact tourism made on their lives.
In Tripoli, I went out to discover the often hidden gems with a so-called storyteller and had the most wonderful experience. Away from seeing Triopli’s most famous sights, Mary Jo presented the city with such a personal touch which was absolutely refreshing and wonderful.
When you book a tour with TourLeb, you are not only enabling travelers to discover the deep layers of real Lebanon that often go unseen by most people but also contributing to local economic growth. At the same time, the company is building relationships between local communities and tourists which help foster dialogue and understanding.
The tours give visitors an opportunity to learn about the diversity of Lebanon, witness its unique landscape and customs, and become part of a living culture. TourLeb also puts a special emphasis on connecting travelers with local experts who can offer them first-hand insights into the communities they are visiting.
When I think back to my experience in Lebanon 2023, I remember the positive impact of the tourism industry. TourLeb has enabled local communities to benefit from increased economic opportunities. From being able to provide services for visitors, such as meals or lodging, to creating special experiences for travelers, these tours helped create jobs and much-needed income for the people of Lebanon.
It also created intercultural and social connections, strengthening ties between local communities and tourists alike. Tourists were able to experience the true beauty of Lebanon in a way they never would have otherwise.
By connecting travelers with local experts and promoting community-based projects, they are helping foster dialogue and understanding between different cultures and creating economic opportunities for communities all over Lebanon.

Community tourism, which is often mentioned when discussing sustainable or responsible tourism, centers on the idea of travelers immersing themselves in a community’s local culture, traditions, and daily life. It goes beyond visiting tourist hotspots and seeks to create a more meaningful and authentic travel experience.
Tourism has evolved from being a mere vacation activity to a means of experiencing different cultures and lifestyles. One such growing facet of tourism is community tourism, which focuses on fostering a deep connection between travelers and the local communities they visit. In this article, we will delve into the concept of community tourism, exploring its major advantages and disadvantages from both the traveler and local perspectives.
– Pros and Cons of community tourism
1. Authentic Cultural Immersion:
Community tourism allows travelers to break away from the tourist bubble and connect with the local culture. They can participate in traditional activities, festivals, and rituals, gaining a deeper understanding of the community they visit.
2. Unique Experiences:
Travelers get the opportunity to engage in activities not available in mainstream tourism, such as learning traditional crafts, cooking local dishes, or even staying with local families.
3. Personal Growth:
Immersion in a foreign community fosters personal growth by promoting empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a broader worldview. Travelers often return home with a newfound appreciation for diversity.
4. Environmental Responsibility:
Many community tourism initiatives focus on sustainable practices, including eco-friendly accommodations and responsible wildlife viewing, which align with the growing trend of eco-conscious travel.
1. Limited Comfort and Amenities:
Community tourism often means fewer amenities and comforts compared to traditional tourist destinations. Travelers may need to adjust to simpler accommodations and facilities.
2. Language and Cultural Barriers
While cultural immersion is a benefit, language and cultural barriers can be challenging for travelers. Effective communication and understanding may require extra effort.
1. Economic Benefits:
Community tourism can provide a vital source of income for local residents. It creates job opportunities, encourages entrepreneurship, and supports local businesses.
2. Preservation of Culture:
Interacting with travelers can motivate locals to preserve their traditions and cultural heritage, as they see the value in sharing these aspects with outsiders.
3. Mutual Learning:
Locals also gain insights into the outside world, breaking stereotypes and promoting cultural exchange. It can lead to a more informed and open-minded local community.
4. Infrastructure Improvement:
Tourism revenue can be reinvested into community infrastructure, such as better roads, schools, and healthcare facilities, benefiting both residents and travelers.
1. Over-Tourism Concerns:
If not managed properly, community tourism can lead to over-tourism, putting strain on resources, infrastructure, and the environment. This can result in negative impacts on the local quality of life.
2. Loss of Authenticity
In some cases, the influx of tourists can lead to commercialization and a loss of the authenticity that initially attracted travelers.
Community tourism offers a unique opportunity for travelers to experience the world through a different lens while providing economic and cultural benefits to local communities. The advantages, such as cultural immersion and personal growth, can greatly enrich a traveler’s journey. However, both travelers and locals must remain vigilant to address potential disadvantages, like over-tourism and loss of authenticity, to ensure that community tourism remains a sustainable and mutually beneficial venture. When done right, community tourism can foster a win-win situation, where travelers and locals alike share in the joys of cultural exchange and economic prosperity.

Consider the following when choosing your under-seat luggage:
Your carry-on bag should fit how you travel. Are you a minimalist who thrives with a sleek backpack for hands-free convenience? Or maybe you’re a chronic over-packer who needs the structure of a hardside suitcase with wheels. Prioritize safety features if you’re heading to a busy destination—anti-theft zippers or RFID-blocking compartments can be lifesavers. The right bag isn’t just functional; it complements your travel vibe and keeps your journey stress-free.
Nothing is more frustrating than digging through your bag to find your passport when you’re already running late. Carry-ons with multiple compartments make it easy to stay organized. Separate spaces for your laptop, snacks, chargers, and travel documents mean everything has a home—and you’ll always know exactly where to find it.
Nothing ruins a trip faster than a broken zipper or a cracked suitcase shell. Trust me, I’ve been there. That’s why durability is non-negotiable. Look for materials like ballistic nylon, which resists wear and tear, or polycarbonate, which can handle being tossed around by baggage handlers. A reliable bag is an investment that pays off trip after trip, adventure after adventure.
If you want a carry-on that’s both stylish and practical, a tote might be your perfect match. Here’s when a tote really shines:
– Short Trips or Weekend Getaways: Spacious enough for essentials without overpacking.
– Business Travel: Easy access to your laptop, documents, and chargers.
– Quick Essentials Access: Grab travel documents, toiletries, or snacks without digging.

Place heavier items like shoes at the bottom of your carry-on to maintain balance. Delicate or frequently used items, like chargers or travel documents, should go on top for easy retrieval.
Maximize every inch of space by stuffing socks or small accessories inside shoes. This not only saves room but also helps maintain the shape of your shoes during travel.
Pack clothing and accessories that can serve multiple purposes. A scarf can double as a blanket or a fashion piece, and neutral-colored clothing can mix and match easily.
For jackets or thick sweaters, compression bags can reduce their volume significantly. These are especially useful for winter travel or trips requiring heavier clothing.
Create a small “essentials” pouch for items like lip balm, hand sanitizer, snacks, and a charging cable. Having these items in a single, easily accessible spot can save you time and hassle during your journey.
Avoid overpacking toiletries by sticking to travel-sized essentials. Use refillable containers for shampoo, lotion, and other liquids to stay within TSA guidelines while reducing waste.
Choose a toiletry bag with multiple compartments to keep items organized and prevent spills. Hanging toiletry bags are particularly useful in small hotel bathrooms.
Keep items you’ll need at security, like electronics and liquids, near the top of your bag for quick access. This will help you breeze through the process and avoid repacking chaos.
