Caribbean carnival calendar

The Caribbean carnival calendar is packed with high-energy celebrations throughout the year. Each of these spectacular carnivals comes with it its own unique flavor, costumes, food, and music! From Trinidad’s world-famous Carnival and Jamaica’s Bacchanal Carnival to Barbados’ Crop Over and St Lucia’s La Rose, there’s no shortage of amazing events!

Caribbean Carnivals January 2026

Bahamas – Junkanoo (National Cultural Festival)

Location: Nassau, New Providence
Dates: December 26, 2025 & January 1, 2026
Details & what makes it special: Junkanoo is an all-night street explosion of hand-crafted paper costumes, pounding goat-skin drums, cowbells, and brass, deeply rooted in Afro-Bahamian history. What makes it truly special is the fierce, community-based competition between groups, with months of preparation for just a few unforgettable hours on Bay Street.

St. Kitts and Nevis – Sugar Mas

Dates: December 12, 2025 – January 2, 2026
Details & what makes it special: Sugar Mas uniquely blends Christmas traditions with Carnival, combining calypso and soca competitions, pageantry, J’ouvert on New Year’s Day, and a colorful Grand Parade. Its charm lies in turning the entire festive season into Carnival, rather than limiting celebrations to a single weekend.

Montserrat – Montserrat Festival

Location: Montserrat
Dates: December 20, 2025 – January 1, 2026

St. Croix (U.S. Virgin Islands) – Crucian Christmas Festival

Location: Frederiksted, St. Croix
Dates: December 26, 2025 – January 3, 2026
Details & what makes it special: The Crucian Christmas Festival stretches across the holidays with parades, music competitions, food fairs, and cultural events. Grenada – Carriacou Carnival

Location: Carriacou
Dates: February 11 – 17, 2026
Details & what makes it special: Carriacou Carnival is famed for Shakespeare Mas, where masqueraders trade dramatic, improvised Shakespearean verses in theatrical duels, alongside parades and Jab Jab characters—making it one of the Caribbean’s most intellectual and tradition-heavy carnivals.

Guadeloupe – Carnaval de Guadeloupe

Location: Basse-Terre & Pointe-à-Pitre
Dates: January 1 – February 18, 2026
Details & what makes it special: Stretching over weeks, this carnival builds momentum with themed parades, live percussion groups, and satirical costumes. Its standout feature is the strong use of social and political commentary, blending humor with cultural critique.

St. Barthélemy – Carnaval de St. Barth
